Hello and welcome to Tablet University's course on basic HTML, HTML 4.01 and XHTML. Before you begin taking this course its important to cover some basic course information.

Prerequisites

This course is designed for people who are brand new to developing websites. The only real experience you need is basic knowledge on how to use a computer and the internet. This course serves to teach the complete knowledge of HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1. After completing the course you will be at an advanced level for these subjects. This course also serves as a prerequisite for more advanced courses on web technologies. If you are brand new to developing on the web then this is the very first course you should take.

Required Materials

The only required materials for this course are a web browser and an HTML editor. This web site uses the latest version of HTML (HTML 5). The lecture section of the site has been optimized to work most effectively with the Google Chrome browser. If you are using a different browser you may experience difficulty watching the lecture videos. The HTML editor can be any program that is specifically designed for editing HTML or you can use any generic text editor such as notepad. If you are using the Windows operating system then notepad is already installed. For this course we will be using a standard text editor (such as notepad) and any generic web browser that supports HTML 5.

Do I Need to Register?

If you do not create an account then you will only be able to view the textbook and reference section. If you register then you can also view the adaptive video lectures and my progress section. All homework is built into the learning system and will be required to be completed to progress further in the course. Please note that the video lecture course requires you to answer specific questions correctly in order to unlock the rest of the chapters. This is done to make sure you master all the skills required to fully complete the course.
